Preppy Text Tutorial

Stripes Pattern:
Step 1
Make your Text, and select it, create two layers underneath it like this:
Step 2
Click the layer underneath the layer of your text, then go to Select > Modify > Expand.
there should be a window like this:
expand this by 2-3 pixels. fill it with white
click the layer underneath that one, fill it with a gradient with the gradient tool.
Step 3
Either, right click and create a clipping mask, or select the original text with the magic wand tool,
fill it with the same gradient, your text should now look like this:
either keep the text selected or create a clipping mask, or if you can right click and select blending options.
fill the new layer with your pattern, or select it in the blending options.
i did this on both gradient layers, and added a little bit of scratches and it looks like this:
save as a .png file & your text will look like this on the web:
